A Family TraditionThe business of fresh meat is nothing new for the Bessey family. Roy Bessey was in the meat industry most of his life. He worked in multiple meat markets and related departments. Then, in 1967 Roy and his wife Kate opened a local grocery store, "Bessey's Grocery" in the very same building the meat market is today. They were in business until 1984. In March of 2008, their son Glenn, decided to bring the hometown meat market with fresh quality meat back to the Rhinelander community. Glenn carried on the tradition he learned from his parents, giving the customer the best quality products with great customer service. Once again, it came time to pass the torch. On September 1st, 2024, Glenn welcomed a new chapter to the Bessey's Meat Market history. Selling the business to his nephew, (Roy's Grandson), Joe Dorion. Now semi-retired, you can still see Glenn's smiling face working behind the counter and giving advice to Joe in his business journey. With the guidance of his mentor Glenn, Joe will continue the Bessey's tradition of bringing great quality products and exceptional customer service to the Rhinelander area.
